So the weather has finally decided to adhere to the current season and cool down a bit, making it the perfect time to wear some of the new digs I picked up from The Idle Man. If you don’ t know about The Idle Man, today is your lucky day. The Idle Man, a menswear based retailer, catering to the style conscious man. Hosing brands such as Herschel, Dr. Martens and Laboratory Perfumes, The Idle Man is a go-to destination for men. Alongside the online shop, The Idle Man Manual is a blog dedication to offering style advice as well as stories and guides about music, grooming and lifestyle.
As part of their fall collection, I grabbed this hoodie and this cotton mac jacket. Black and Tan: great as a drink, great as an outfit. The rule of having to choose between black OR brown just isn’t a thing. All neutrals pair with everything — including other neutrals. A black hoodie is pretty much a staple during fall and I love the unique texture of this one. It gives just the right amount of warmth for these cooler fall days, but also layers perfectly with the classic styling of a trench. I also love the versatility of a classic black and white striped tee. This one is easily layered but also perfect worn all on its own.
I have picked out my favorites and what I bought from their Fall Collection below, but be sure to check out the full Fall Lookbook here.
Plus, right now you can save an extra 10%on your fall updates when you use the code BRYAN10 at checkout.
The weather has *sort of* finally cooled down enough for me to wear some of the things I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Since this Billy Reid jacket (which was one of my favorites from the sale) has just been hanging in my closet since July, I was definitely ready to pull it out at the slightest fall chill. I love the leather collar detailing and the subtle quilting that layers great over this textured henley.
These are also a new pair of selvedge denim that still have the super clean rigid look. With each wear, these jeans get a little bit softer and little bit more worn in. I actually think this “breaking in” is one of the most interesting qualities for selvedge denim because no pair ever looks the same. Each pair of jeans carry a history of the person that wore them with unique wear and tear. How interesting to look back in a year or so to see the difference from this clean raw denim to what will most certainly show signs of wear. Plus, raw denim ends up being the absolute most comfortable because it perfectly forms to your body and fits better every time you put them on.
If you never have, try out a pair of raw selvedge denim. It does take a little bit of time to go from raw to super comfortable and broken in, but that in between is all part of the story.
One of the quickest things I learned after becoming a new dad was to find ways to simplify. Schedules are now based around feedings and diapers, and grabbing sleep when you can will take priority almost everything else. Keeping things like meals and my schedule a little simpler helps to maximize time with the our new family and keeping stress down.
Simplifying has also been true for my wardrobe the past month as well. I have been living in the Sunday Shorts from Outdoor Voices, but when we have gotten out and about, I have kept things simple with a tee-shirt and jeans. I love the space dyed texture on this calibrate tee. It looks modern and updated but pairs and wears just as easy as any classic tee. I wore it out to run a couple of errands with these newly updated slim straight denim from AG and Nike SB sneaks.
I have also come to appreciate the need for a good bag to haul all of the necessities that come along with a baby. Diapers, wipes, and at least one change of clothes are available at all times, so finding a bag to carry everything is important. I’ve long been a huge fan of Herschel Supply Co. backpacks and picked up this new style as my ‘cool’ diaper bag. Now I don’t have to forfeit all style points to ensure the baby essentials are readily available.
The end of summer is somewhat of a bittersweet time for me. I am always ready for cooler weather, but I miss the laid back attitude, longer days and warmer nights. As this summer draws to a close, Labor Day weekend always feels best when celebrated by the water. Either the lake or the coast, Labor Day is meant to be in and around the water before the cooler temps take hold.
But this year is an exception. We will be skipping the coast in lieu of hanging out with our 3 week old baby at home, and I am more than OK with that. Our newborn daughter is absolutely perfect and the beach isn’t going anywhere. We know that these precious first few weeks are like nothing else and would be happy to celebrate her first birthday on the beach next year.
Since we have decided to stay landlocked, I am posting up in coastal vibes with this lightweight linen printed shirt from Culturata. This navy whale print gives a nod to my love for the beach in well-suited short sleeves (soon be replaced for long) in seasonally appropriate linen. Culturata uses the best materials and whenever I wear a shirt from them, I am always impressed with the quality and comfort. Pair this one with easy denim and loafers, to capture a laid back beach vibe without leaving home.
