So as the heat continues to bear down on us, one of the only saving graces is being able to go bare-legged with a good fitting pair of shorts. I always say to keep it a few inches above the knee, with room to move, but still tailored and never baggy. These Bonobos shorts have a 7″ inseam and are perfect in between length and all around appropriate for most weekend activities.
I also love a nod to nautical during the summer months, and this tee from Todd Snyder completely fits the bill. Lightweight with button pocket detailing, this is the perfect tee to finish out a laid back summer look.
I have always had a love/hate relationship with summer. I love the laid back attitude, longer days, and causal feel, but absolutely hate the heat. Being from Texas, I should have definitely acclimated to the constant presence of overly warm temperatures, but even so, high temperatures completely shut me down. My only saving grace the past few summers has been the full acceptance, and encouragement of the short sleeve button down. What once felt little too much like Dwight Schrute is now a mainstay of summer style.
So don’t sweat through the next couple of months, a short sleeve button down is the perfect staple for all things this summer – Great for the office and weekend alike. In fact, you would be remiss to find a retailer not currently offering a short sleeve button down in a variety of colors and patterns right now. And I am here for it. This one, from Rag & Bone, is the perfect lightweight fabric to help stay cool and has a beachy, laid back fit, perfect for these warmer months. When paired with these almost white chinos and blocked white sneakers, it is the perfect outfit for June.
Suiting always has been the pinnacle of classic menswear; the ultimate idea of dapper and pulled together style. You don’t have to look for very long across the internet to find any number of guys completely acing a suited look, but has never been a big part of my style. I have been self-employed for the majority of my working life, so never had a strict office dress code to worry about. Other than my classic navy Ludlow that I pull out for weddings and special occasions, I just didn’t have many suiting options.
So, in trying to break out of my routine this summer, I opted for a new version of an old classic with the suit from ASOS. I really like the bolder brighter blue, that feels modern but not over the top. The lightweight wool is not too hot (for now) and has a great feel and texture. I think it will be a perfect substitute for my navy suit at a few of the weddings this summer or just a nice evening out.
So try it out– give your grey and navy suits a break and go for something a bit more modern. ASOS has a lot of options for suiting that are inexpensive and to any degree of boldness you are brave enough to try. Summer events are the perfect time to showcase a more unique style and compliment your badass dance moves during the reception.
With summer right around the corner, now is the time I always hit a refresh and begin to update the pieces I’m wearing. Lighter weights and bolder colors start showing up more in my closet and everything is topped off with a pair of sunglasses.
A blue blazer is also one of the staples that most guys need in their closets this time of year. They can dress up a fitted tee for a casual date night, or complete the entire look for an outdoor summer wedding. This blazer, from Ted Baker, is the perfect color blue for summer with great texture and details to really standout from your traditional navy. The small details, like buttons, stitching, and fabric choice really make the difference in standing out (in a good way). In fact, Ted Baker’s attention to small details are one of the reasons I have always been a fan. The prints, fabric choices, stitches, and buttons are all thoughtfully chosen — plus the fit is great. The brits know what they’re doing here.
I also just snagged a pair of these Too Boot sneakers, which I already know will be on full repeat throughout the summer. I love the classic white minimalist style with the addition of the grey suede block. They are perfect to wear with pretty much everything and have that subtle additional hint. White sneakers are another necessity of the summer, so do yourself a favor and cop yourself a pair if you haven’t already.
